Have you noticed, and I know you have, that the new ones are just like the DPS from 1991-1992?
The first worked hard to install fascist regime in society then, others are doing it now.
The first ones were, the second ones are hired workers for the creation of a Greater Serbia – only now it’s called the Serbian World.
The first ones were, the second ones are under the full control of Belgrade – the first were ruled by Milosevic, the second by Vucic.
Both were talking a lot about democracy: both claimed that the history of Montenegro started with them.
Both came to power on the wave of general mobilization of Greater Serbia nationalism: in the case of the first ones, it was called the “event of the people”, while in the case of the latter it was called – “religious processions”.
Both liked to say that their Greater Serbia project aims to dissolve corruptive actions of the former government.
Vijesti daily to this new set-up is what Pobjeda daily used to be the first one. All of their helpful, and so rebellious, so righteous, so pure in terms of ethic columnists actually reproduce the discourse of Konatar’s Pobjeda. Both declared the spirit of Cetinje, the spirit of anti-fascist, civil Montenegro – ‘Ustashaism’.
And the Television of Montenegro… well, the television of Montenegro. Which lies about the protest in Cetinje like Emilo Labudovic used to lie about the aggression in Dubrovnik.
You have noticed, of course, that Zdravko, Dritan and Aleksa are just Milo, Sveto and Momir from AliExpress. Dritan is, like, an abbreviated Milo: a razor or a hammer, whatever. Aleksa is another Sveto Marovic: wise, collected, likes to use phrases and “useful ambiguities”. And Zdravko is, of course, Momir: a man from the people, whose name is Montenegrin and surname Serbian.
Both sides attacked Cetinje: they were afraid of it the most. Isn’t it evident that Joanikije’s NATO landing on Cetinje is just a replica of Amfilohije’s crime, the one when he brought Arkan and his armed sociopaths into the monastery?
EU integration to this new set-up is what “defense of Yugoslavia” was to those other ones: a rhetorical mask for the Greater Serbia project they served/are serving.
Fascism of both was/is green. The first ones, in the midst of the butchery on behalf of Greater Serbia, came up with the Ecological Country. The second ones, while hitting the last nails in the coffin of the Serbian World into which they pushed Montenegro, brag about their environment-linked actions and the fight against mini-hydro power plants.
That warmongering DPS was allegedly somewhere in the middle of the political field, between the “extreme” Liberal Alliance and the extreme People’s Party. The latest composition allegedly is somewhere between the “extremists” who defend the civic and pro-European Montenegro and the extremist backing the Serbian World.
Fascinating, indeed… In an attempt to destroy what was good in the DPS’ policy following 1997, this set of Belgrade’s servants brought to power the worst version of that party: itself, an updated version of the 1992 DPS.
What does the repetition of the history we are witnessing tell us?
Everything is – continuously – the same; only worse, all in vain – the same. What repeats as a tragedy the first time, as a farce the second time, repeats for the fifth time as an agony devoid of any reason, let alone meaning. After that, it continues to repeat, but it’s a movement that no one notices anymore, because in the end only dullness remains, which abolishes joy, but also suffering. People tend to call this stupidity wisdom.
It can be called that. But we won’t use it. It’s too easy. Nihilistic surrender is always the easiest option.
Let’s put it this way: I am Greek, “but our grief is not Greek,” as Auden wrote.
Everything, in fact, is not so bad. When evil can no longer be disguised as masks of progress, freedom, and humanism, true, pure hope emerges.
This hope cannot be harmed by all the narcissistic cynics of this world, all the self-loving scum who believe they’re above good and above evil, all revisionists and relativizers, all hypocrites who justify their collaboration with oppressors by disgust over the primitivism they see in the desperate struggle of the oppressed.
As I mentioned, Auden writes:
“Our grief is not Greek: As we bury our dead,
We know without knowing there is reason for what we hear,
That our hurt is a desertion, that we are to pity
Neither ourselves nor our city;
Whoever the searchlights catch, whatever the loudspeakers blare,
We are not to despair”.
The most valuable of all the precious things the Jews have given to mankind is the idea that time is not a circle, it’s not an eternal repetition of the same shit; the idea that there’s an end, which is also the meaning of history. Because of that idea, our pain is not Greek.
Is there anything more comforting, anything more beautiful, anything more hopeful, than the thought that everything powerful, everything that oppresses – will perish, that everything that in the blindness of force mistakenly sees itself as great – will fall?
