Latvia fully supports enlargement policy, and Montenegro is the closest to the EU membership, as it has done most in the process, Latvian officials say.
Latvia’s president, Mr Eglis Levits, expressed his gratitude to his Montenegrin counterpart, Mr Milo Đukanović, who is in his official visit to Baltic countries, the visit called historic.
“The first official visit of Mr Đukanović to Latvia is a historic day for us. Thank you for being active NATO member. Our country constantly supports you and wants the transition process to finish as soon as possible. Montenegro has made substantial progress in the EU integration process and I firmly believe that it will become EU member very soon. Latvia will provide you with technical support, especially in the area of rule of law”, Mr Levits said.
Mr Đukanović reiterated that Montenegro was a leader in the region.
“Our path has no alternative and it is the only right way for the WB societies. We are glad to see that our Baltic friends share the same opinion”, Mr Đukanović said.
Mr Đukanović said we shared responsibility for global safety with Latvia.
He thanked Latvia for continuous support to Montenegro’s European perspective.
