In an interview for weekend edition of Dnevne Novine daily, a professor from Belgrade, Vladimir Goati described president of Montenegro Milo Đukanović as ‘an individual making the history’.
“There are individuals who really are capable of making the history and Milo Đukanović certainly belongs to this category. When I look back at the presidential elections, when his main opponent was a man having support of all former Yugoslav republics, I thought he had no chance. At the end, he won. He was totally committed to state interests and managed to preserve them, at the same time achieving goals now making the history,” Goati told Dnevne Novine daily.
Commenting on recent developments in the region, Goati underlined that it’s evident the Balkan states need to act jointly through the international cooperation.
“Political decisions are crucial and that’s what the region lacks. It’s questionable whether the countries of the Balkans will ever figure out they need to act together if they wish prosperity. Đukanović had guts to move towards the Europe even though well aware of the fact it’s not perfect,” stated Goati.
Citizens of the Western Balkans still do not know that ‘European integrations represent the least evil’, according to Goati.
As for the Montenegro’s president, he added: “Đukanović shows tolerance towards people who oppose him and thus proves how different he is from other leaders in the Balkans,” he concluded.
