The value of lost disputes, handled by the Defender of Property and Legal Interests of Montenegro in 2017, amounts to approximately €11,6 million, but the fact is that the State Treasury had to pay over €20,2 million. This amount includes payments in 2017 which refer to procedures launched before that time period.
In 2017, the Defender received 5,489 suits in total and most of them were submitted to the office in Podgorica, i.e. 3,600 decisions of first instance and 3,515 final decisons.
As for the last quarter of 2017, the Defender received 966 suits in total, all of them filed against Montenegro. Most suits refer to labor disputes, i.e. unpaid overtime, not taking breaks at work, vacation and meal allowances.
