EU financial support has been a flexible and efficient form of support for Montenegro, especially during 2020 and the crisis provoked by pandemic spread of coronavirus, 15th meeting of the Supervisory Committee of the pre-accession Instrument stated. The meeting was chaired by the head of the Unit for Montenegro in the Directorate General of the EC, Mr Thomas Hagleitner.
Commenting on the use of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Support 2014-2020 (IPA II) in Montenegro during the previous year, Mr Vujović emphasized that the spending of all €279.1 million, as much as the European Union has opted for Montenegro through the national programs of IPA II and that the implementation of contracted projects proceeds in accordance with the planned dynamics.
He especially pointed out that during this year, in cooperation with colleagues from the European Commission, IPA support in the amount of €53 million was successfully repurposed to support Montenegro in response to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 virus.
Mr Hagleitner pointed out the readiness of the European Commission to continue financing strategically important and ready projects in Montenegro in the coming period through national IPA programs, as well as other instruments of financial support of the European Union.
He especially pointed out the possibilities brought by the Economic and Investment Plan of the European Union for the countries of the Western Balkans, with the belief that Montenegro will continue to successfully use the funds of the European Union to support important infrastructure projects.
He pointed out that the focus in the coming period will be on achieving the planned results and implementation of approved programs, as well as on preparing projects for the new financial perspective 2021-2027, which obliges the entire IPA structure to dedicated and dynamic work.
