Some European Union (EU) member states plan to open migrant reception center in one of the Western Balkan countries. According to some European media, secret talks on this topic were initiated by Austria, that is, its Prime Minister Sebastian Kurz. Albania has been mentioned as the country in which the center will be placed, or maybe even Serbia and Macedonia.

In case they opt for Albania, thousands of migrants might come to Montenegro. This might also destabilize the Western Balkans and it also represents a blackmail. CdM tried to find out more about these rumors from the National Police, but received no answer.

Military analyst, Aleksandar Radić, says it’s evident this situation might cause long-term negative consequences for the Western Balkans. “It might destabilize us. This represents the proof that we have been treated as a second-rate country,” underlined Radić.

“We can’t even think about having the position as the Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orbán stood for. In that case, they would simply punish us and disable all our attempts to accede to the EU,” estimated Radić.

Croatian analyst, Davor Gjenero, claims this situation might cause problems for Montenegro if the EU decides to establish the migrant reception center in Albania, but for Croatia as well. “Croatia might become a hot spot for migrants. Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia&Herzegovina (B&H)  might be endangered with such plans and politics,” he added.
