European Union has supported Montenegro in the fight against the spread of coronavirus and recovery of the economic consequences of the epidemic with a total of €53 million from the funds granted from the IPA program. Part of the money will be used for the construction of the Clinic for Infectious Diseases, worth €8.5 million.
The remaining amount (€50 million) was earmarked for long-term planning of the recovery of coronavirus consequences.
IPA program for 2018 earmarks €9.5 million for the sector of agriculture.
Taking into account conversion of funds, total amount of support in the area of public health has been increased by €15.5 million.
During the financial period between 2014 and 2020, EU earmarked €279.1 million for Montenegro, with a view to providing financial assistance for the implementation of necessary reforms and fulfilling requirements of the membership.
WHAT WILL BE ACHIEVED
This amended action document will improve protection of the population from infectious diseases with the construction of two clinics – Clinic for Infectious Diseases and Clinic for Dermato-venerology.
The EU also expects improved quality of microbiological laboratories through procurement of adequate equipment. In addition, Montenegro has assumed the duty to reaffirm its national system for the establishment of the level of invalidity, enabling persons with disabilities to have regular access to services and fees.
Reconstruction of the Institute for Public Health and its equipment for laboratories of the 3rd level of biological safety and procurement of devices for the analysis of a great number of respiratory samples at the same time is another important investment.
