EUR 12 million for substation revitalization and modernization

Representatives of the Montenegrin Electric Transmission System, CGES, the KfW Development Bank, the Consortium ‘Siemens-Elnos’ and the project consultant Tractable-SEEC, visited works at the substation in Herceg Novi, which will provide citizens and industry with better electricity.

A substation in Herceg Novi is just one of 15 sites – substations across Montenegro with ongoing works that started in the beginning of the year, and include replacement of high-voltage equipment, reconstruction of the system of control and protection equipment, as well as the integration of several high-voltage substations into the SCADA system.

The €12 million project, under which the “Trans-Balkan Electricity Corridor (I): Section Montenegro, Part II” works are being carried out, is one of the most significant investment projects in Montenegro. Through the Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), the European Union has provided €25 million financial assistance for the implementation of this project, and the funds are being paid by the German Development Bank, KfW.
