Four small breweries were opened in Montenegro in the last 12 months – one in Podgorica and Nikšić, and two of them in Herceg Novi. These breweries are registered in the record of the Administration of Food Safety.
Owners of the breweries point out that their business would be much easier if the excise paid for the beer produced in small breweries reduced. Right now, as they say, they are fighting unequal battle with major, industrial beer producers.
Representatives of the brewery “Academy of Beer” say that they came up with the idea to open this brewery in Podgorica because the production of local craft beers has been drastically developing for two decades and is constantly conquering the world market.
“Having that in mind, we wanted to offer to the local market something new, and develop the consumers’ awareness about domestic brands. We are very satisfied with the results we’ve achieved so far. Regardless of the fact that this was a pioneer undertaking, the beer was accepted. This will serve us as an additional incentive for the production and experimentation with other beers”, said the representatives of this brewery, which has in its offer five standard beers. So far, this brewery has produced nine types of beer.
The representatives of this brewery think that problems in the operation of small breweries occur as a consequence of unfair race with major industrial beer producers.
