Filip Ivanovic Head of Diplomacy
We finished yesterday’s articles stressing the little time left for Montenegro to break free from the embrace of its northern neighbor and its allies and become a member of the EU. Yesterday, at the conference organized by CGO and the Regional Academy for Democracy, Minister Ivanovic said that all subjects of the new government were pro-European. I believe him too. The only question is which Europe we are talking about today. Orban’s or Fitz’s one? Or maybe Putin’s?
Mr. Ivanovic is one of numerous Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) alumni who until 2020 remained silent about the “crimes of Milo Djukanovic’s regime”, only to wake up when the church called the people to do something. Along the way, Mr. Ivanovic, just like Mrs. Injac, worked at the University of Donja Gorica, but with the political changes he transferred to the University of Montenegro, where he now works at the “progressive institute”.
Mr. Ivanovic graduated in philosophy in Bologna and then earned a master’s degree in the lives of Christian theologians and philosophers Dionysius the Aeropagite, or Pseudo-Dionysius, an author who, under the name of the first Christian bishop of Athens, wrote works in which he wanted to reconcile Christian theology and the “heathen knitting of the Athenians”. Apart from Dionysius, Ivanovic dealt with and studied the lives of other early Christian thinkers. He is a member of many known and unknown societies and associations, and his books on Dionysius the Aeropagita were published in America.
Mr. Ivanovic is a Christian conservative, significantly more right-wing than contemporary European Christian Democrats. And there is nothing controversial about that, as long as he does not present himself as a centrist on Wikipedia, on the page edited by the famous “Elserbio00“, the creator of many propagandistic works on Wikipedia pages in Serbian and English.
Mr. Ivanovic is a Putinophile and an opponent of trans-Atlanticism. His columns and guest appearances on television until entering politics testify to that. Brano Mandic already scanned Ivanovic’s sinful soul the day before yesterday, highlighting his tomb-philia and open love for Putin. So, I have no choice but to repeat Ivanovic’s quotes from Brano’s text:
“It is quite certain, it was seen from the first day after the death of Metropolitan Amfilohije, that his grave will become a place of pilgrimage, and who knows what good and beautiful experiences await us from that grave, which we will yet see”.
Defending “Russia’s right to defend itself”, Ivanovic reacts to the occupation of Crimea in a guest appearance: “However, Russia is not the same as it was 20-25 years ago, so now Russia responds. Russia responds by annexing Crimea, Russia responded a few years ago by recognizing Ossetia and Abkhazia as independent states; Russia is now responding with its own campaign in Syria, and it is interesting that Russia has had more success in a few weeks than NATO has had in a few years!”
During the campaign for Montenegro’s membership in NATO, Ivanovic also wrote columns against the “bully” alliance, which were followed by his guest appearances on television where he said: “Imagine what a moral and political victory it is for the West to win for its project a country that for hundreds of years was in the closest ties with Russia, and whose rulers died with the name of Russia on their lips.”
Mandic predicts that Ivanovic “will have to distance himself from his youthful aspirations, or surrender to them completely, in the time of world-scale turns”.
Ivanovic did not distance himself from his youthful aspirations. Or at least not publicly. Some people needed an attack on Ukraine and massacres like the one in Bucha to dispel illusions about Putin. Maybe a change happened with Mr. Ivanovic as well. He was probably not familiar with the occupation of Georgia, perhaps the homeland of the real Dionysius the Aeropagite. Perhaps he was not aware of the imprisonment and killing of critics of the Putin regime, the pogroms of others and the different in Chechnya.
We all know where Mr. Ivanovic’s heart is, where Dragan Krapovic’s heart is, and the hearts of many others who are wearing lamb’s clothing these days. Our friends from the West know it too. The only thing is that they don’t care about the cobwebs on the hearts of these people. They still believe that their authority is strong enough not to allow them to work according to their conscience. The citizens of Montenegro have nothing left but to wait. The oppositional and critical potential is trapped in the clutches of the compromised old elite.
And what is being waited for? The election in America is waiting for next year. The election, more than anything else, will trace the path of Spajic’s government. They have a year to go. Exactly one year as long as the annex to the parliamentary majority agreement lasts.
