Final data from MONSTAT: Imports increased, exports fell

According to final data released by the MONSTAT Statistical Office, the country’s total foreign trade in 2024 amounted to €4.7bn, marking a 4.6% increase compared to the previous year.

Goods exports reached €615m, while imports climbed to €4.1bn. Compared to 2023, exports dropped by 8.8%, whereas imports rose by 7%. As a result, the coverage of imports by exports fell to 15.1%, down from 17.7% the year before.

In terms of export structure, the most significant category was Mineral Fuels and Lubricants (Sector 3), with a total value of €154.4m. Within this category, electricity was the dominant item, contributing €114.7m.

On the import side, Machinery and Transport Equipment (Sector 7) topped the list, totaling €991.5m. Road vehicles were the largest component in this sector, accounting for €382.7m.

Montenegro’s key export partners in 2024 were Serbia (€184.5m), Bosnia and Herzegovina (€45.2m), and Switzerland (€37.2m). The main import partners were Serbia (€699.6m), China (€480.8m), and Germany (€414m).

The highest volume of foreign trade was recorded with CEFTA countries and the European Union.
