First shelter for child victims of abuse to open

The Ministry of Social Welfare will open the country’s first shelter for child victims of abuse within the Mladost children’s home in Bijela, Pobjeda learns.

The ministry explained that the premises for the children accommodation have already been determined. The shelter will have capacity for six children.

This is standard capacity, the ministry stated, adding that it depends on a child’s need how long he/she will stay there. The ministry also points out that relevant experts will be engaged in the shelter.

Last year, 238 reports of suspicion of neglect and violence against children were recorded, while in 2016 they were less than 165.
