The trial to former Mayor of Podgorica, Mr. Miomir Mugosa, has begun in the High Court today. He is accused of abusing office to help Carine companies gain profit. Mr. Mugosa denied the charges before judge Vesna Pean but refused to answer questions of Chief Prosecutor Milivoje Katnic and Prosecutor Ljiljana Lakic.

Defense claims there was no wrongdoing whatsoever, and that the former mayor is “just a wealthy pensioner” looking to clear his name.

According to him, this procedure unambiguously seeks to inflict political, personal, family and professional damage, as well as morally discredit him with an unavoidable media satanization.

Mr. Mugosa stressed that the experts who examined this case seemed to have given him supernatural powers ranging from law and economics to finance.

“We need to see about these so called experts, which is why we will propose seven witnesses. The prosecution’s strategy is to blame me, only, even if I did not make any decisions at all, because I was not authorized to do so. I signed the decisions in the formal legal sense”, Mr. Mugosa added.

The media reported earlier that Mugosa chose to remain silent during the investigation, meaning he chose to defend himself by silence.

The former mayor is the sole indictee in this case, and he is suspected of damaging the city budget for 6.7 mil euros.

The continuation of Mugosa’s trial is scheduled for July 3rd when witnesses will be heard.
