Fuel prices to depend on Middle East developments

Davor Dokić

Although oil prices on the world stock markets are currently falling, they are rising in Montenegro and have increased by up to 20 cents per liter since the beginning of the year. It is difficult to predict now whether there will be stabilization in the market, analyst Davor Dokic has told Radio Montenegro. Everything will depend on the developments in the Middle East, he adds. Dokic says that it is up to the executive power, if there are extreme price increases, to decide, as the previous government did, to reduce excise duties on fuel.

Fuel went up for the first time at the beginning of the year by one and two cents, so a liter of Eurosuper 95 and Eurosuper 98 cost 48 and 52 cents, respectively. Diesel cost €1.43. Until yesterday, there were 9 adjustments where 7 price increases and only 2 symbolic price reductions of a cent or two were recorded, so in total, in 4 months, the price of petrol increased by 12 and 20 cents, and diesel by 5 cents.

Income from excise duties at the end of last year reached over €185m, that is, €60m more than the year before.
