Games in Kotor continue: Is Jokić going to be dismissed today?

Vladimir Jokić

Whether the president of the municipality of Kotor, Vladimir Jokić, will be removed from this function or not, we’ll probably find out today. This initiative has been launched by the local Socialist Democratic Party, dissatisfied with Jokić’s decisions and overall work. Later, the SDP has said that they will withdraw the initiative if Jokić agrees to organize local referendum regarding the port in Kotor: Do you agree on the construction of LUŽA (operational coast of the port) for the berth of mega-cruiser?

Jokić replied to the request of SDP almost immediately, but he imposed a condition.

“Being the president of the municipality, I accept any referendum question that 17 councilors of the governing majority agree on”, said Jokić.

As he said, he finds the suggestion of SDP acceptable, provided that they withdraw the initiative for his dismissal and attend the meeting of the local parliament and vote on the Budget.

However, nothing goes smoothly in Kotor, it was confirmed last night, when the local SDP made a statement after the session of the Municipal Committee.

If Jokić is dismissed, some municipal leaders will resign.

There is also going to be a rally, organized by Democratic Montenegro, from 10 to 12:30 today, in front of the Bizanti Palace in the Old Town.

The Municipality of Kotor hasn’t adopted the Budget yet, but the compulsory administration has been avoided.

Jokić has said recently that the fact that the Budget hasn’t been adopted will not affect the functioning of the municipality.

He also said that SDP’s act of failing to attend the meeting was “obstruction and hypocrisy”.

Apparently, today is the D-day in Kotor. We’ll see if the coalition partners will be able to overcome “hypocrisy” or if the days of Jokić as president of this municipality are counted.
