There is a lot of controversy about the Open Balkans. There are many officials, economists and many others who believe that Montenegro should not be part of this regional initiative. There are also those who clearly say that the Open Balkans is a political experiment, but also a mousetrap of the Serbian World.
We often hear that for Montenegro, the priority of all priorities is EU membership, and that the state should direct all its energy towards that goal.
CdM has asked Nikola Gegaj, a member of the steering committee of the Democratic Party of Socialists, what he thinks about the Open Balkans.
“As for the regional initiative called Open Balkans, I can see that it is in favor of some notorious aspirations of some leaders of the Western Balkans”, he says.
“Personally, I express the greatest doubt about the goals and intentions of the initiator of this initiative, who is also the strongest promoter and investor in the creation of a Greater Serbia under the euphemism Serbian World, and at the same time undoubtedly Russia’s extended hand in the Western Balkans”, Gegaj explains.
Gegaj has expressed support for all individuals, organizations, institutions and parties that are working towards the accelerated accession of Montenegro to the EU.
