Passing of the Metropolitan Amfilohije has provoked reactions in the country and the world.

From the Russian Patriarch to the European Commissionaire

Condolences have arrived from the highest addresses in the orthodox world, and from the EU. All the most important embassies have sent their condolences. Almost all political parties and some religious communities also conveyed their condolences to the Metropolitanate, Patriarch Irinej and the believers. Day of mourning was held in seven municipalities in Montenegro.

“Missed a chance to remain silent”

Mr Olivér Várhelyi expressed his condolences on Twitter social media network and thus provoked criticism of many analysts, such as Mr Florian Biber and Mr Dimitry Bechev, who recalled Quote of Mr Jacques Chirac and stated that Várhely “missed a good chance to remain silent”.

Different messages of our leaders

President Đukanović sent a reserved note of condolences, but still paying tribute to the Metropolitan for the role he head in the preservation of peace during the referendum period. Prime minister-designate, who has always been very close to the church and Metropolitan, insisted that a Day of mourning be declared. Leader of the Montenegrin party, Ms Anđela Ivanović, received threats and insults due to her Facebook remark that “it was refreshing” after the death of the Metropolitan.

Negative reactions in the world media

Several world media, such as the German Bild and Russian Komersant, have mentioned the Metropilitan in a negative context.

Funeral of the Metropolitan has also sparked controversy.

 (Un)desirable guest
The main guest at the funeral was Mr Alekssandar Vučić, and the “president of all Serbs”, as recently nicknamed by Mr Aleksandar Vulin. Although not really the pet of the Metropolitan and a great part of believers in Montenegro, Mr Vučić took the opportunity to promise construction of factories on the “newly-liberated” territory.

The Big boss sees reality in everything

Mr Željko Mitrović also joined, probably seeing reality potential in the event. Through its propaganda form called “Minut-dva”, Pink M has been attacking American ambassador for her interference in Montenegrin politics.

Pale hosts

Montenegrin  leaders were in the shadow of Mr Vučić’s performance. Poet Matija Bećković compared this funeral with the funeral of the Kinf Aleksandar Karađerđević, while the prime minister-designate called the funeral the religious processions of all religious seen so far.

Irresponsibility and lack of care

Public health was neglected, as not all people weren’t wearing masks and weren’t keeping distance, were partaking communion with the same spoon…

Appeal of the doctor of the Clinical Center for closing the coffin due to the increased risk, has provoked attention in the regional media.

Let’s go back to the politics

About the government…

Despite the tragic event, leaders of political parties gathered for hatchet burying and reach an agreement. They agreed that no politician could be part of the Government if the unwanted DF trio couldn’t be part of it. Mr Nebojša Medojević called the agreement a “dangerous experiment” and even threatened Mr Krivokapić a little bit, stating that he would ask for the “reform plan”. Democrats are still silent.

The good news is that the government will probably have fewer departments which might lead to the rationalization of the public sector.

…and the opposition

DPS seems to be waking up from the collective post-election depression. A surprisingly energetic performance of the Mayor of Podgorica in the local parliament has pointed at some well-known illogicalities of the governing coalition.

That much for the first day. Until tomorrow.
