Government sets preconditions for the return of Montenegrin citizens from battlefields abroad

Government of Montenegro has set preconditions for the return of Montenegro’s citizens from battlefields abroad, said secretary od state in the Ministry of Interior and national coordinator for fight against violent extremism, Mr Dragan Pejanović at the 4th meeting of the Regional Network Coordinators of the WB countries, which was held in Skopje.

As representatives of the Ministry said, this meeting was an opprtunity for discussing challenges in dealing with the retrun of persons from battlefields abroad, especially vulnerable groups, women and children.

“It was stated that it was necessary to provide comprehensive approach to returnees, special treatment for women returnees and re-radicalization, re-socialization and re-integration programs for men returnees”, said the representatives of the Ministry.

Mr Pejanović presented activities which are under way in the context of combating violent extremism and radicalization. He pointed out there were many successful initiatives.

“We apprach this challenge with absolute commitment, although this problem isn’t serious in Montenegro. Through the activities of the National Operational Team, we raise awareness of this phenomenon. Montenegro is the only country in the region that has National platform for fighting violent extremism and radicalization”, said secretary of state.

Mr Pejanović pointed out that Montenegro’s Government was working on identifying the causes of such phenomena and was holding intense dialogue with all structures with a view to strengthening resistance of Montenegro’s society and preventing any form of stigmatization and discrimination.
