Dragan Hajdukovic, a world renowned physicist said for Pobjeda that we’re living in times which were brilliantly described by Ivo Andric.
„With additional difference that in his time there wasn’t such a planetary fall in creativity and imagination. Not even scientists are what they used to be. Tragedy is that there is a large number of scientists willing to even lie and twist the facts for the interest of the owners of the world who give them bigger crumbs than to the rest of us; good examples are criminal pharmaceutical industry and hiding the seriousness of the problems that we will face due to polution and climate change”, warns Hajdukovic.
He emphasized that reckless behavior of humans towards nature has brought humanity on the verge of self-destruction.
„Planetary polution of water, land, food and air has reached dramatic levels and catastrophic climate change might happen already in the middle of this century, when the kids born today wll be in their best years”, said Hajdukovic.
But as he said, human civilization is not just sick globally, but locally too.
„Look at Montenegro, Montenegro is country of deep internal divisions and inequality, a country led with no vision and humanity, a country that became occupied economically by reckless sale of its resources, a country which destroyed its coast by barbaric construction, a country where the only virtue of the ruling authority is that the vast majority of the opposition is even worse than them”, he said.
According to him, a world like this and Montenegro like this need a critical, creative nad a voice with good intentions of the people who we call intellectuals, though sometimes we’re overusing this word.
„Let’s make one thing clear, just because someone is a good poet or a scientist doesn’t mean that he is a true intellectual. An intellectual is a combination of the vast knowledge and humanity, love towards nature and people, civic courage and independent thinking”, said Hajdukovic.
He added that intellectuals like this are very scarce nowadays here and worldwide.
„Intellectuals like this cannot change anything in a world of greedy capital which will step over corpses if necessary in order to reach its goals, even if it means endangering the whole human kind. However even if they know that they can’t change anything, true intellectuals mustn’t be silent, they have to speak up and spread the knowledge, wisdom and hope. It’s a whole different story that in nowadays Montenegro it’s a punishment to be an intellectual because every different opinion is considered a hostility”, said Hajdukovic.
