German ambassador to Montenegro Hans Gunther Mattern said he was convinced that Montenegro would solve the boycott crisis on its own, without help from the outside. He said that Montenegrin politician would make this happen through contacts and connections, family school, faculty or friendly. Mattern also said he believed the solution to the problem would also come within a reasonable period of time.
He also said that once election campaign and elections were over in a democracy, the contesting of political ideas had to return to Parliament, as that was the ground for politicians to present their views and arguments to the public.
“If the opposition does not take part in parliamentary debates and does not present its various ideas, this eminent political role is taken over by other entities, primarily the non-governmental organizations,” Mattern told Dan.
Speaking about Montenegrin EU accession negotiations, Mattern pointed out that the pressure of the negotiation process lead to a kind of progress desired by citizens.
“As soon as the prosperity is ensured, the negotiation chapters will be closed,” the German ambassador said.
