Despite the perceived vulnerabilities in the system that were treated and evidently reduced in the previous period, the Montenegrin economy is a promising one. This was said by governor Radoje Zugic during a meeting with the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development’s office in Montenegro, Jaap Sprey. Zugic also expressed the expectation that in the forthcoming period, through its initiatives and projects, the EBRD will support further strengthening of the competitiveness of the Montenegrin economy, ie contributing to valorisation of its numerous resources.
The governor presented the situation in the banking sector, the business parameters of which were improved in the previous year. He also presented the system itself in terms of a higher level of stability and security.
Sprey congratulated the governor and CBCG on the contribution that the Central Bank made by taking all the necessary measures within its competence in order to strengthen confidence in the overall financial system, which, as he said, certainly contributed to the additional increase in the confidence of international financial institutions and foreign investors in Montenegro .
The EBRD is the largest financial investor in Montenegro. Since 1991, it has invested more than €530m in about 50 projects.
The current portfolio for our country is about €350m.
