Highway toll to range from 3.28 to 4.92 euro

According to preliminary estimations, a fee for crossing the priority section of the Bar-Boljare highway will range from 8 cent to 12 cent per km, depending on the vehicle type, the Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs told Dnevne Novine daily.

It’s still unknown who is going to manage the priority Smokovac-Uvač-Mateševo section and it seems that the Ministry hasn’t defined the highway toll either. The total length of the priority section is 41km and preliminary estimations indicate that drivers will have to pay from €3.28 to €4.92 for highway driving from Podgorica to Kolašin (one-way toll).

“We’ll take into consideration the European experiences, standards and recommendations, but our preliminary estimations show that the highway’s priority section toll will range from EUR 0.08-0.12/km, depending on the type of vehicle,” explained Montenegrin Ministry of Transport and Maritime Affairs.

When asked about developments on the highway and possible delays, the Ministry said they cannot talk about deadlines for implementation of specific objects and highway parts, as the priority section has been defined as a functional and construction whole.

“Deadlines determined in contract refer to entire section and not to its specific parts,” the Ministry stressed.

The contract envisages construction of the priority highway section to be completed by May 2019. In case of delays, fines could be imposed even up to €40 million, and China’s CRBC company would have to pay it in that case. Out of 16 tunnels, construction works are being performed on 15 of them. 9 tunnels were perforated and 18 bridges are being built, out of the total of 19.

Commenting on the developments of the main project– Smokovac loop, which was supposed to be submitted by the end of March, the Ministry explained this project is in its final stage. The afore-mentioned loop will be constructed in several phases, while the first phase does not include construction of the entire loop in Smokovac, but rather a link to the priority section.
