In an operation of Special Police Team and their counterparts from the Podgorica Police Department hundreds of cigarette packages were seized on Thursday afternoon. The packages contained cartons of cigarettes of various brands without excise stamps on packs or a proof of origin, Dnevne Novine newspaper learns.

The operation, ordered by the Special State Prosecutor’s Office, began on Thursday by searching private houses and business premises of the owner of the Golden Gate warehouse and porcelain store in the Karabusko Polje village.

A large number of police inspectors and technicians of Forensic Centre attended several hour searches of four family houses, the store, a truck and several warehouses, which were packed with cigarettes.

According to DN’s unofficial information, the officers thoroughly searched the houses looking for evidence. Even firefighters helped police to open the warehouses.

According to unofficial information, the investigation into cigarette smuggling has lasted for some time. It is assumed that the cigarettes were brought there by trucks, considering the amount of packages seized. DN’s source could not precisely say how many packages were seized or where the cigarettes were brought from.
