Institute for Hydro-meteorology and Seismology of Montenegro made a statement that today and tomorrow in Montenegro’s southern and central region we can expect very bad weather conditions that are categorized as code red. Red meteo alarms is given when there are especially dangerous weather conditions, and they are in such intensity that they can cause great material damage and be very dangerous for safety and health of people and animals.
This highest level warning is caused by announced big rainfall followed with strong wind. According to the prognosis, Institute for Public Health recommends that citizens follow informative TV shows and weather prognosis, as well as warnings from amenable services, so that they can act accordingly.
In threatened areas there can be cuts in water supply, coloration of water as well, so they need to follow the information given by amenable services.
“In the case that water supply is made by individual water objects (wells, local pipelines etc), the recommendation is not to use this water for drinking until a laboratory confirmation is received. Until then, it is best to use bottled or boiled water. Water needs to be properly boiled, which means to leave it to boil ten minutes more after the initial boil, in order to destroy the bacteria”, they said in the Institute.
In case of floods, a level of personal hygiene must be increased.
“It is recommended that hands are often washed with soap and clean water (before eating, after toilet, after cleaning and handling objects that came in contact with flood or canalization water). The health of categories of citizens can be at risk, especially sensitive groups such as children, elderly, chronically sick, etc. Special attention must be paid to children, and washing of their toys“, they said in the Institute.
Decreased visibility, lightning storms, wet road and strong wind make unfavorable conditions for driving.
“We recommend that participants in the traffic rise awareness if they must be outside. No driving over flooded roads, because there is no way to assume the condition of the road under the water”, they said in the Institute.
Lightning storms and thunders happen with electrical discharge between storm clouds and land.
“If you can hear thunder, it means that you are not in a safe position and that you must find a hide-away because there is no safe place in the open during the storm. If no refuge is available, stay in the vehicle. In closed spaces you need to avoid contact with metal objects, faucets, sockets, and anything else that can conduct electrical energy. If you are in a car during a thunder, do not park next to high objects or electrical conductors that could fall down, close all the windows in the vehicle and avoid touching metal parts of the door. If the thunder happens while you are on a boat without a cabin, reach the coast as soon as possible”, they said in the Institute.
Strong wind in combination with rain can rise the risk of harm by many factors (pulled trees, flying objects, electrical installations, etc).
“In the coastal area strong wind in combination with high waves can cause local floods. Avoid being in the open in such conditions, and be careful if you are outside. If there are health issues caused by bad weather conditions, seek medical attention as soon as possible”, they recommended in the Institute.
