Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica has initiated an inquiry into imports of poultry meat, Dnevne Novine newspaper unofficially learns.
The Prosecutor’s Office is checking allegations of the chief state veterinary inspector Mirjana Draskovic about low-quality chicken meat imported from Brazil. She said that imports from that country was risky and that it should be prohibited. She cited several reasons, ranging from the way of growing to transportation.
She recalled that Montenegrin veterinary inspection had detected salmonella in the Brazilian chicken meat in November last year, and that these days Albania and Croatia were returning shipments of salmonella-infected chicken to Brazil.
As a reminder, the Inspection Directorate responded to Draskovic’s allegations stating that all the chicken imported from Brazil was safe.
Two days ago, the head of the directorate Vesna Dakovic announced at an extraordinary press conference that all consignments of poultry were tested according to all food safety parameters and that 11 consignments imported from Brazil this year were safe.
She said that Draskovic’s allegations were false and that it was not the first time that she alarmed the public before summer tourism season.
Dakovic accused Draskovic of fighting for her own position in this way, since she will no longer be the chief veterinary inspector.
