At the start of spring, Montenegro’s capital Podgorica is usually facing with a long-standing problem of improper herbal waste disposal. The waste is being disposed in hundreds of locations in the capital, which only contributes to creation of small landfill sites and makes the capital ugly.
Podgorica residents, at least majority of them, don’t seem to throw their waste in proper landfills, even though the company ‘Čistoća’ (i.e. the capital) provided space for free disposal of specific waste, which people usually dispose around bins, green area, in the riverbed and other areas.
The worst situation is in the Stari Aerodrom neighborhood where residents dispose their garbage on green areas despite the great number of waste bins. According to statements of citizens, ugly disposal sites can be seen throughout whole year, especially in this time of the year, when people usually dispose herbal waste.
‘Residents are disposing their garbage here every day. We have already warned them and called ‘Čistoća’ to clean the space but very soon we could see new disposal sites. Citizens are throwing their waste on the roadside“, says resident from Stari Aerodrom neighborhood.
