“A large number of citizens live abroad. Their residence is in municipalities in the north, yet they are citizens of other countries, not to mention those who temporarily went to live abroad. Therefore, that number is huge and, in the north, according to our estimates, it has been around 40,000 people who left it in the last 10 years”, says Almer Mekic.
If these data are correct, it would mean that in the last 10 years, an entire municipality left Montenegro.
Analyst Predrag Drecun says that government action and a good plan are needed, and that it is possible to make it in Montenegro, “but we live in a consciousness where individual, party interest is above the general interest”.
Drecun adds that the state must create a precise strategy for the development of the north, in order to give citizens a reason to stay there.
