The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation is determined to deal with the problem of forged and purchased diplomas, because the consequences of this phenomenon can be far-reaching in Montenegro, Minister Andjela Jaksic-Stojanovic has told RTCG. She adds that it will be much more difficult to track down purchased than forged diplomas.
As she has pointed out, the purchased diplomas are a much bigger problem.
“You have an institution that is accredited somewhere, you have a certificate that that diploma was issued, and you are obliged under the current law to issue diplomas and certify them. This problem cannot be solved by the Ministry of Education, but it is necessary to involve the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the police and the Prosecutor’s Office. This does not refer only to the institutions in Montenegro, but also those from where the disputed diplomas come from”, the minister believes.
Jaksic-Stojanovic states she is concerned about where people who hold controversial diplomas are employed.
“I don’t care if one of those people is a doctor, who tomorrow should treat me or my child or any other citizen”, she says.
Pandora’s box is open, and when asked what the Ministry’s next move is and whether it will “comb” diplomas in public administration, she states that it is best to always start from one’s own yard.
