After CdM invited readers to nominate topics about which it will report via a questionnaire, the problem of cleanliness in the Podgorica settlement of Konik stood out. Anyone passing through that neighborhood can see that the garbage bins are often full, that garbage is scattered around them, and when they are empty, there are a lot of illegal landfills. Therefore, there is concern about the danger to public health, which one of our readers particularly emphasized in his comment.
In conversations with the residents of Konik, they pointed out that due to irregular waste removal, there is arbitrary and self-initiated destruction of waste, so that tires are often set on fire in this settlement. CdM will particularly focus on that problem in the coming period.
Prompted by the remarks of dissatisfied citizens, we contacted Podgorica Public Cleaning Services that does not hide that it has a lot of problems in that part of the city, but claims that it is doing its best to solve them.
The company states that Konik is an urban area where, due to the continuous improper disposal of waste next to garbage bins and on public surfaces, it is necessary to clean it almost every day with the use of machinery.
The company adds that it is very important to point out that, given that the city has provided places for the proper disposal of certain types of waste, it is the duty of all citizens to respect this, because otherwise the responsibility for illegal landfills is not on company, but on the individuals who create them.
