Kordic: I hope that quality candidates will apply again

Simonida Kordić

There will be no way out of the political situation until politicians start a dialogue that would lead to a compromise, say experts. At the same time, the NGO sector says that we cannot talk about an independent Constitutional Court because it is still controlled by parties. The new cycle of judges’ elections opens already on Friday.

A new chance, but an already known procedure. This is how the session of the Constitutional Committee will look like on Friday, where MPs will once again discuss the announcement of a public call for the election of four judges of the Constitutional Court.

The president of the Constitutional Committee, Simonida Kordic, despite the failed attempts so far, expects a positive epilogue this time.

The director of MANS, Vanja Calovic Markovic, however, claims that in the already existing composition of judges of the Constitutional Court, they are a reflection of the political will of the parties.

“Because DPS has shown that they will not let the elections take place, that they will not elect judges unless there are people they control. We know that now in the Constitutional Court we have three judges – two judges who are under the direct control of that party, one judge under the control of DF, so we are far from having an independent Constitutional Court. Now the whole battle is being fought over the mathematics of who will have a dominant influence on the judges of the Constitutional Court and that is the reason why they could not come to an agreement”, she explains.

The reforms that were talked about by those who managed to change the government in the country cannot be talked about precisely because of the captured institutions, Calovic Markovic points out.
