Lawyers owe EUR 3.7 million in unpaid taxes, the Tax Administration (PU) told CdM. It’s important to mention that the debt has been decreased compared to the situation in June 2017 when 716 lawyers owed EUR 6,846,113 last year.
“Having in mind the lawyers themselves generate massive revenues and that amendments to the Law on Personal Income Tax stipulate lawyers should pay taxes on their incomes, the Tax Administration has intensified activities towards improving the tax discipline of lawyers,” the Tax Administration told CdM.
Regardless of the fact lawyers represent a specific category of tax payers, any tax avoidance won’t be tolerated – the Tax Administration was adamant.
In accordance with the Law on Restructuring Debt, 283 taxpayers have already started with settling their tax liability in instalments, and it’s expected the tax debt to be settled through this kind of a system in 5 years, especially bearing in mind the Tax Administration plans to continue with the supervisory activities in the forthcoming period.
