At the party’s meeting held on Wednesday, the participants concluded that the act was contrary to the Montenegrin and European legal system and that it directly violated the principles of the Constitution of Montenegro.
“The fact that the interest of society and people has become a subject of a political compromise has been proved and it is tragic. LP MP will not support the draft law in the current form, unless it is drastically amended… The presidency has assessed that the announced government of “electoral trust” is neither legal nor legitimate… It is contrary to every liberal-democratic legacy and unprecedented in the modern world. The government will consist of people who will actually enter it from the street and who have not been elected by the people to represent them in any capacity. The question is whether certain candidates have been open opponents of the state of Montenegro and whether it is good that these individuals hold most responsible public positions”, the Liberal Party stated.
LP Presidency adopted the draft platform for negotiations on the possible pre-elections cooperation with political parties that share identical programme principles with LP. The platform will clearly determine the position of the Liberal Party and possibility of political negotiations with other political entities.
LP has also decided that the funds, which were previously allocated for the jubilee celebration of Independence Day on 21 May, should be donated to charity. The Liberals will mark this important anniversary with a series of symbolic actions.
The presidency has also expressed dissatisfaction with the LP’s results in local elections in Tivat.
“The results were caused by longstanding lack of party infrastructure in the town”, LP stated.
