Lutovac: We have laid strong foundations for development, Berane ready for Lidl and Eagle Hills

Đole Lutovac

Berane Mayor Djole Lutovac says the past year, though challenging, was one of the most important for the municipality, marked by stabilising local governance and laying strong foundations for future development. Despite inherited problems and limited finances, the administration improved efficiency, citizen communication, and project preparation, securing state support for numerous infrastructure and communal projects.

Lutovac confirms that Lidl has completed the purchase of land in Berane and that all municipal obligations have been fulfilled, while the construction timeline now depends solely on the investor. Berane is also open to potential investment from Eagle Hills, with initial interest focused on tourism and related infrastructure.

Looking ahead, the municipality plans capital projects worth over €20m, including a new city market, healthcare facility upgrades, road reconstruction, and a recycling centre financed with support from the EBRD. Water supply improvements, environmental protection, youth retention, and cooperation with the central government remain key priorities, with Lutovac stressing strong state backing for accelerating development in northern Montenegro.
