At today’s session of the Council for Defense and Security, Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic proposed that transnational drug smuggling cartels be declared terrorist organizations.
“Today, at the session of the Council for Defense and Security, I proposed to President Jakov Milatovic and Prime Minister Milojko Spajic to amend the National Security Strategy in the part of the political influence of organized crime and to declare transnational drug smuggling cartels terrorist organizations. Taking into account the security risks and threats, as well as the strong influence of the structures of transnational organized crime on state institutions, I expressed the view that it is necessary to proceed with the adoption of a special law on the fight against terrorism as soon as possible”, wrote Mandic in a post on the X network.
This law, as he clarified, would create new legal weapons, strengthen the capacities of state authorities in the fight against terrorism, enable the implementation of important public policies and eliminate obstructions in the fulfillment of obligations from Chapters 23 and 24 in the Negotiations with the EU.
According to him, the Council members strongly welcomed this initiative.
“Together we decided to pay special attention to it at the next session, which will be held very soon. Also, we would use the period ahead of us to primarily discuss this initiative with the representatives of the European Union and the United States of America”, Mandic said in the announcement.
