Montenegrin Prime Minister Dusko Markovic met in Sofia on the sidelines of the EU-Western Balkans Summit with German Federal Chancellor, Mrs. Angela Merkel.

Saluting the importance of the first EU – WB Summit after 15 years, PM Markovic and Chancellor Merkel exchanged views on  further European perspective of Montenegro and the Western Balkans. The Chancellor welcomed the constructive role of Montenegro in the region.

Referring to Montenegro’s results in the integration process contained in this year’s Progress Report, collectors agreed special focus is needed in the area of the rule of law and freedom of the media.

PM Markovic informed Chancellor Merkel that the govt has prepared an agenda to respond to these challenges:

“This is a moment when we need more money and more capacities to achieve these goals.. Securing media freedom and protecting journalists is a fundamental value, and we must do everything to ensure it”.

The next meeting within the Berlin Process is to be held in London this July, which will give a new opportunity to summarize the results achieved in the meantime.
