Marković: We will not be shelter for migrants

Prime Minister of Montenegro, Duško Marković, said during the Prime Minister’s Hour that there aren’t any camps for migrants in Montenegro. In case of their greater influx, the country will be ready to react – special containers for their accommodation will be provided. However, Marković clearly says that Montenegro will not be shelter for migrants on behalf of the EU.

Milan Knežević, from Democratic Front, wanted to know who had given the instructions to the Prime Minister for the construction of camps for several thousand migrants in order to reduce the pressure on the EU borders.

“I have never said that Montenegro will build camps for more thousand illegal migrants in order to reduce the pressure on the EU borders. That’s not true. If you can, find that statement of mine. I usually know what I say. So, it’s not true, it’s a manipulation. Montenegro will not be shelter for migrants”, said Marković.

Knežević insisted that Marković had said that to the Austrian national television.

Marković focused on the stability of the country as the priority of the Government. He also reminded that Montenegro had already helped to the victims of wars and sufferings.

“The project of the rehabilitation of the watchtower form the times of the former Yugosalvia has been planned. That would be one of the instruments for responding to the future challenges. In addition, with the financial support of the EU, Montenegro started providing special containers which will solve the problems of the accommodation in case the influx of migrants increases. Therefore, Montenegro will deal with this question in accordance with its constitutional and democratic principles”, said Marković.

As far as the economy is concerned, Marković expects that this year Montenegro might even go beyond the expectations when it comes to the GDP growth. He believes that our life standard is getting closer to the European.

Raško Konjević, from Socialist Democratic Party,  wanted to know what would the Government do in order to settle the tax responsibilities worth 54 million EUR.

“Hopefully, we will stop the increase of debt. We will pay every tax claim, no matter who the majority owner is”, promised Marković.
