Marković: We’ll make sure everything functions efficiently

Montenegro’s Prime Minister, Mr Duško Marković, said that Montenegro “doesn’t need Šešelj-sation”. He expressed gratitude to the citizens for supporting Government’s policies, but he also said he was very sorry for witnessing irresponsible behavior in the Parliament. He said he didn’t expect to situation to get worse and that the Government would do its best to keep everything under control.

“I believe that Montenegro of the 21st century doesn’t need such sort of behavior in the Parliament. We don’t need “Šešelj-sation”. We need dialogue and greater level of understanding. I fiercely condemn the incident, it is irresponsible and rude, but I also believe this is going to be a useful lesson”, said PM.

Mr Marković said that the Government demonstrated it was capable of providing high-quality dialogue on a very delicate issue.

“I’ve been trying to find ways of patching up our differences and I agreed to meet with the Metropolitan Amfilohije. We talked for two hours, exchanged views and arguments. Suggestions made by DF were blackmail. Take it or leave it. In such an ambiance we couldn’t figure out what their interest was. Now, the law is adopted. It’s for the good for all citizens, believers and non-believers and it will strengthen Montenegro as free and democratic society where believers will have equal rights”, said Mr Marković.

PM said that Montenegro was able to ensure peace and stability and thanked numerous citizens for the continuous support they had provided during the discussion.

“Thank you for your trust. As President of this Government, I can guarantee you peace and stability. There’s nothing you should worry about”, said Mr Marković.

Asked if there was danger of riots, PM said he didn’t think so.

“DF called on the citizens to take to the streets and to put pressure on the MPs and the Government and make them withdraw the law. It’s not citizens’ to what was happening in the Parliament. Therefore, i don’t believe there will be any riots, I don’t believe in instability”, said Mr Marković.

He called on the citizens on the streets to go home.
