At a meeting with prime minister Dusko Markovic, German chancellor Angela Merkel pointed to the seriousness of the current situation in the Western Balkans, the government stated.
Merkel and Markovic briefly met at the Munich Security Conference.

“Chancellor Merkel congratulated Mr Markovic on his election as prime minister and pointed out the seriousness of the current situation in the Western Balkans,” the statement said.
As the government added, at a meeting with US Vice President, Michael Pence, Markovic said that Montenegro was committed to the reliable partnership with the United States and allies in North Atlantic Alliance.
“Pence said Montenegro could be convinced in the friendship of the United States,” it is said in the statement.
PM: Some things in the Western Balkans cause caution
Senior international officials PM met in Munich agree that Montenegro is on the right path and that NATO partners support it.
“At the same time it is clearly stated that recent developments in the Western Balkans are forcing us to be cautious. There is the need for all of us in the Western Balkans to talk about the problems and issues that can cause not only political but also security instability,” Markovic said.
“I believe that Montenegro will be a powerful player in the processes that will contribute to the stability of the Western Balkans as a key condition for the development of individual countries and the region as a whole,” he said.
