Influential EU Member States are skeptical about enlargement and that doesn’t make the way of the countries of Western Balkans any easier. However, the reform processes must continue, says Vice-President of the Government of Albania and the Minister of Public Administration, Senida Mesi. She points out that Montenegro and Albania have perfect political dialogue.
“Future of Western Balkans lies in hands of the EU. Despite considerable achievements of each country, we still have a lot of work to do. At the same time, the EU itself has its own internal dynamics. Also, some influential members have skeptical attitude towards enlargement and there are also tendencies of anti-migrant speeches from both right and left political parties. We are aware of the challenges ahead of us. Our region has full support of the Union regarding the reforms we must follow and the membership perspective”, said Mesi.
She pointed out that the migration problem is getting more and more serious and, according to her, that requires dialogue and close cooperation.
“I believe that the principle of solidarity and humanity can be maintained. Albanians have found better life in many countries of the world and, therefore, we understand the necessity of emigration. Albania and Montenegro have never been part of the Balkan corridor when a great migrant crisis towards Europe began, but we had a very clear approach. Thus we are ready to assume our responsibility within the European project”, said Mesi.
She also spoke about the cooperation between Albania and Montenegro.
“Albania and Montenegro share political perspective in the Alliance. We organized in July a joint meeting of our Governments with the aim of keeping up with out constructive role in the development of the region and good bilateral relations and in order to strengthen direct and long-term cooperation between the two states”, said Mesi.
