The Memorandum and the Framework Agreement on Microsoft Licensing have been signed for a three year period, thus continuing, as the Deputy Prime Minister Vujica Lazovic put it, a significant cooperation with the U.S. IT giant that began in 2005 when the first contract was signed.
“For the Government, the cooperation with the powerful American company is very important. I expect we will show resourcefulness and initiative to take advantage of the cooperation areas defined in the Memorandum in order to gain more transparent and better governance, high level of information security, better and more innovative faculties and schools, better and more innovative solutions in the health care sector, as well as to reduce piracy level in Montenegro by identifying illegal software”, Lazovic said after signing of the Memorandum and the Agreement with Microsoft.
According to the Microsoft Regional Manager, Zeljko Vujinovic, by signing the Memorandum and the Agreement, the Government of Montenegro acknowledges and recognises significance of the modern IT systems for functioning of the State and development of entire economy and society.
“With this Agreement, the Government of Montenegro has defined and remained consistent with protection of intellectual property rights and use of legal software. After the three years of the Agreement being in force, I want to see results that could be presented around the world”, Vujinovic said.
The U.S. Ambassador to Montenegro, Margaret Ann Uyehara, has said that the strategic partnership that began ten years ago between the Government and Microsoft has stood the test of time.
“The Agreement shows that the Government of Montenegro is committed to development of IT society, at a time when all of us need to be aware of the risks existing in the cyberspace”, Uyehara said.
She added that the U.S. Embassy remained committed to building strong relations and strengthening the economic partnership between Montenegro and the United States.
