Milacic paid fine and left prison

Marko Milačić

The leader of the movement Otpor Beznadju (Resist Hopelessness) Marko Milacic paid €150 fine and left the Institute for the Enforcement of Criminal Sanctions (ZIKS), Dnevne Novine newspaper reports.

He served part of the sentence in prison and another part paid. When he left the Spuz prison, there was no performance or gathering of his supporters.

Milacic did not answer calls on Tuesday, so DN was not able to get information from the horse’s mouth what the reason of this sudden change in the NGO activist’s attitude was.

On 10 April Milacic went to serve 20 day prison sentence for violating the law on public gatherings. He refused to pay €500 fine, saying that “the payment of the fine would mean accepting responsibility for something he was not guilty of”.

“Therefore I haven’t paid the fine and don’t intend to do that, although I still have the legal ability for that. By paying the fine, I would become an accomplice of the grotesque and shameless regime and a system that oppress everyone who thinks differently, particularly when it comes to the NATO issue,” Milacic said then. However, he paid a part of the sentence and left the prison after serving 15 days.

The court has ruled that Milacic has to go to prison for 20 days because he did not pay €500 fine. He was fined two years ago because he had refused to show his personal ID to police during NATO Day celebration. He was arrested then.

Before entering the prison, Milacic set a NATO flag on fire in front of it.

Democratic Front (DF) officials Andrija Mandic, Milan Knezevic, Slaven Radunovic, Jovan Vucurovic and Strahinja Bulajic were in front of the Spuz prison along with Milacic. They applauded while the Otpor Beznadju leader was igniting the NATO flag.

According to unofficial information, Milacic plans to attend DF’s gathering in Murino on Wednesday and rally in Cetinje on Friday, when the Parliament is to vote on Montenegro’s entry into NATO.
