Jakov Milatović

The next EU-Western Balkans Summit with Montenegro hosting will be held on 1 June 2026. According to the cabinet of the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, the event will bring together leaders from all EU member states.

“It will be one of the biggest diplomatic events in Europe next year. The decision of the European Council to hold the Summit in Montenegro is a strong political message, but also a recognition for the progress the citizens of Montenegro have achieved on the road to the EU. It is, at the same time, the confirmation that the Western Balkans has its place in the EU, and that Montenegro has been perceived as a credible partner that takes responsibility for the stability and the development of the region,” it is said in a statement.

As they point out, the latest EC report on Montenegro has officially confirmed Montenegro may become the next EU member state by 2028.

“Our strategic goal is to build a European, modern and resilient country working in the best interest of its citizens,” President Milatovic’s office says.

They continue: “Our obligation is to get the work done – to work on the development of modern society and a strong economy every single day.”
