Asked about the importance of that document Milosevic said that he believes that everybody noticed a dramatic difference between the support of NATO integrations in the parliament compared to overall public of Montenegro.
„This illogicality shouldn’t exist. Deeper analysis would probably show that more than two thirds of parliament members support NATO integrations of Montenegro, because a part of the opposition supprts joining the Alliance too. The conclusion is obvious, representatives of citizens in the parlieament clearly didn’t properly explain advantages of NATO integrations to their voters, and didn’t communicate the matter enough with their voters. We believe that through this resolution parliament will institutionally send a message to domestic and international public about a realistic support and need for NATO integrations of Montenegro, and that will also be another contribution towards full membership of Montenegro in the Alliance”, he said.
Milosevic said that it’s his impression that within the final phase of joining the NATO an open and public debate has been created where every citizen, without any idealizations, can learn about the advantages that membership in the Alliance provides, compared to alternative possibilities of building a security system.
Asked whether he believes that coalition DPS-SDP will “survive” until the expiration of its four years mandate, Milosevic didn’t hide that for preserving the coalition with SDP main motivation are NATO integrations.
„No responsible political party must put party’s interests over country’s, and NATO integrations are main national priority, not only from foreign relations and integrations point of view, but overall. When it comes to DPS, we will make every step necessary in that direction, and never in the direction of decreasing our chances to become a part of NATO. Since Government and Parliament are entering the final year of its mandate, it is completely realistic to already sum the impressions about functioning and results of our coalition. An expected invitation to NATO will be a respectable result, but not enough to make a conclusion that the ruling coalition achieved its goal, primarily because of disrespecting the coalition agreement and blocking the development projects in parliament”, he concluded.
