In order for the Ministry of Diaspora to respond in the true sense to all the needs of our diaspora and to create plans and programmes for future activities, the basic prerequisite is to have approximately accurate data on our diaspora in the countries where it is located, Diaspora Minister Mirsad Azemovic has told CdM.
He has announced for CdM the project of creating the register of Montenegro’s diaspora.
“The Ministry of Diaspora, as the legal successor of the Diaspora Administration, wants to make a step forward in the direction of an even better connection between the motherland and its diaspora. That’s why my first task is to start developing the software, which will be a register of the diaspora and which will allow us to get at least an approximately correct number of our people in the diaspora in a simple way”, says Azemovic.
When asked which countries have the largest people from Montenegro, Azemovic answers that they are primarily the countries of the region, but also the countries of Western Europe, America, Canada and Australia.
“Of course, there is a large diaspora in Turkey. The Ministry cooperates intensively with associations and diaspora associations around the world. Our mission is to bring them as close as possible to Montenegro, and I am sure that we will succeed in that”, Azemovic has pointed out.
He says that the current government has recognized the importance of the diaspora and that is why the Ministry of Diaspora was formed.
