Ministry of Finance earmarks €3 million to help Ulcinj get through the blockade

Predsjednik opštine Ulcinj Ljoro Nrekic

Ministry of Finance will pay €3 million to the municipality of Ulcinj and the Government will earmark another €2,5 million of loan, so that Ulcinj can find its way out of the months-long blockade, said president of the southernmost Montenegrin municipality, Mr Ljoro Nrekić.

In order to address this matter properly, land between hotels Galeb and Albatros was planned to be sold at the price of € 605 per square meter.

The account of the municipality was blocked 35 years ago by Rekreaturs company from Budva. The blockade was enforced by the decision of the Supreme Court.

Mr Nrekić hopes that they will have gone out of this difficult situation by the end of year.

“Hopefully, we’ll breathe new life into Ulcinj and service everything we need to service”, says Mr Nrekić.

He says he’s optimistic.

“We’ve made an estimate of the land that is to be sold. We’re waiting for the Government to produce its opinion. The situation is delicate because the municipality has reached a stalemate. Around 200 employees haven’t had their salary for several months. Something needs to be done urgently”, concluded Mr Nrekić in his statement.
