The new Government refuses to support Mr Igor Lukšić for the position of Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC). Despite the fact that he was elected by an international agreement, the Government is already looking for another person.
The statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in relation to this issue says that, in accordance with the RCC Statute, Montenegro will propose a non-party person for this prestigious position, who will equally represent the interests of all.
The RCC Statute’s Article 19, however, specifies that Secretary General should be a strong political figure in the region, with great ability to interact with regional governments, international partners and institutions while re-affirming successful engagement in regional cooperation.
