The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is doing everything in its power to return the Montenegrin seafarers home. They want to make their return safe, as it’s the government’s key priority concerning the repatriation.
“So far, over 140 Montenegrin seafarers required assistance of the ministry or diplomatic-consular networks to pave way for them to return to their homes, while other expressed the interest via their colleagues from ships or ship authorities. Until now, more than 125 individuals/seafarers have returned (from the USA, Brazil, Canary Islands, Turkey, Japan, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Italy, France, Germany, the Netherlands…) by plane or road, while the return of some them via transit corridors in Sofia, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Zagreb is still pending,” the Ministry explained to CdM.
According to their information, the total number of seafarers and crew in countries abroad is around 510. The largest number of our nationals – over 250 – are sailing at the Royal Caribbean cruise ships, while the significant number of them is at cruise ships of Norwegian Cruise Line, Carnival Cruise Line, MSC, and other smaller companies.
Employees of the Ministry, the Montenegrin embassy as well as honorary consuls directly communicate with many Montenegrin seafarers, respond to their specific suggestions/information, which refer to the possibilities for their return home, monitor their health condition and state of play on ships, and are acquainted with all other relevant aspects of their stay/return.
