A total of 114 cops were temporarily suspended from duty by the end of last year, while 55 officers were suspended in 2025 alone, on various grounds based on the Internal Affairs Law, the Ministry of Internal Affairs told the CdM portal.
The ministry said suspensions are imposed in cases of serious breaches of duty, pre-trial detention, or the initiation of criminal or disciplinary proceedings, particularly in cases involving corruption or crimes committed in connection with official duties.
During suspension, officers receive 70% of their salary with some remaining on paid suspension for years due to lengthy court proceedings.
The most common grounds for suspension are disciplinary proceedings related to serious misconduct, with the ministry stressing that the measure is applied to protect the integrity and reputation of police and ensure smooth implementation of proceedings.
So far, 29 officers have been suspended due to serious disciplinary violations and identified security concerns, while 122 cases are currently under review by the Assessment Commission.
Between October 2023 and the end of December 2025, 138 security vetting procedures were launched, with security obstacles detected in 68 cases. In 2025 alone, suspensions increased, including 19 officers in January, six in April, and three in July, the Ministry said.
