Hungary has been monitoring the political events in the Western Balkans with special attention, and we are fully aware of the dangers that slowing down of the European integrations can bring. That’s exactly why we firmly advocate for the accelerated integration process of the countries in the region, Ambassador of Hungary to Montenegro, Négyesi József, told in an interview with Pobjeda daily.
Thanks to the extraordinary political relations and favorable investment climate, Hungary has become one of the largest investors in Montenegro since it restored its independence back in 2006.
“The total value of foreign direct investments from Hungary to Montenegro exceeded EUR 500 million over the past decade. In my opinion, the greatest chances for deepening the existing cooperation exist in the sectors of agriculture, food industry, environment protection, water management and tourism,” he said.
The Ambassador made a point of being clear – Brussels has been supporting the European perspective of the Western Balkans. “In 2018, the European Commission defined a clear time perspective for the accession of the leading candidates, Montenegro and Serbia, to the EU by 2025. Hungary firmly supports the European integration of the Western Balkans as we are completely aware of the fact that the stability of this region is in our own interest and the one of the EU as well.”
