Justice minister Zoran Pazin says that Montenegro has not received an official invitation from Russia for the special prosecutor Milivoje Katnic yet. Katnic would go to that country to question Eduard Shishmakov and Vladimir Popov, the suspects for plotting coup attempt on election day, 16 October 2016.
“The official invitation has not been received in Montenegro. As the justice minister, I am looking forward to having such cooperation. From our side, the Special State Prosecutor’s Office has sent a request for mutual legal assistance, which would involve a hearing of Shishmakov and Popov in the presence of our chief special prosecutor and his associates,” Pazin told reporters after opening the anti-corruption conference in Podgorica.
He also expects Russia to arrest Ananije Nikic, as a measure of responsibility of that country.
“According to our information, he is in their territory,” Pazin said, adding that if Nikic was not in Russia, then the competent authorities of that country should deny the information.
Commenting on the issue of where Svetozar and Milos Marovic would serve their prison sentences, Pazin said they would be in prison in Montenegro.
“I have expressed clear position of the Ministry of Justice that our department will not allow any kind of legal abuse and I expect that both Svetozar and Milos Marovic will serve their sentences in Montenegro,” Pazin said.
